2022 Will Be The Year Of The Most Powerful Chips: What To Expect

In 2022 The New Exynos 2200 And Apple M2 Will Be Released, And Work Should Begin On The First Chipsets With A 3-Nanometer Production Process

The processor represents the fulcrum of every smartphone, tablet, and computer, the more performing, the higher the processing capacity of this component. Everything revolves around it, and everything a device can do has a strong correlation with its computing performance.

Although the characteristics of the display, camera, and audio depend on the chipset’s capabilities, the latter must always be accompanied by an operating system capable of exploiting its potential. Many manufacturers are very successful in achieving this goal, but new technologies are always required to cross different boundaries. Hence the need to reach the 3-nanometer production process in the shortest possible time would make the chipsets of the next two years even more powerful than the current ones used by Samsung, Qualcomm, and MediaTek.

Exynos 2200: Samsung’s Gaming Chip

The new Samsung chipset is expected to be unveiled before the Galaxy S22 series, which should be powered by the same in some markets. So far, the company hasn’t gone too far on its processor specs, although it has anticipated that it will be particularly well suited for video games.

According to the latest rumors, it should be made with a 4-nanometer FiNFET manufacturing process and be supported by a Radeon Mobile graphics processing unit developed in collaboration with AMD. As for connectivity, we should find a built-in 5G modem and WiFi 6E.

In the wake of rivals, an AI accelerator (aka NPU) and image signal processor (ISP) for shooting up to 200 megapixels and 8K video should be missing. We could see it at work for the first time on Galaxy S22, S22 +, and S22 Ultra, expected to debut by March.

TSMC: 3nm Chips Arrive In 2022

According to DigiTimes, Taiwanese TSMC should have started work on chipsets made with a 3-nanometer production process, and their production could begin in the last months of 2022. This would mean anticipating Apple by several months that next year should stop at 4 nanometers.

Given the incredible performance promised by this year’s top-of-the-line processors, including Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000, and Samsung’s Exynos 2200, we can only fantasize about the development possibilities that will ensure next-generation technologies on top. Range of late 2022 and early 2023.

Apple: What To Expect From The M2 In 2022

At the moment, Apple seems to be stalling. After the 5 nanometers of M1 and its variants, it could move to the 4-nanometer TMSC production process for the next M2 chipset, which should only be presented in the second half of next year.

The M2 Pro and M2 Max variants should arrive only in 2023. In fact, according to what has been leaked, Apple expects a development period of 18 months before their release. This means that the Cupertino giant shouldn’t switch to 3 nanometers before then and could only do so on M3s.
