MacBook Pro with M2: How They Will Be And When They Arrive

There is no need, but Apple is about to present even more powerful laptops: they are the two MacBook Pros of 14 and 16 inches with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.

With the arrival of the first MacBook Air with an M2 chip in the homes of those who ordered them in recent days, it is already time to look forward because by now, it is understood that Apple’s ” M revolution ” started slowly but has soon accelerated and, now, Apple goes straight like a train. Next station: MacBook Pro with M2.

According to Bloomberg’s now inevitable Mark Gurman, the new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro will arrive soon. They will have the new chip (in M2 Pro and M2 Max versions ) but little else new because the design will be very similar. Apart from chips, there is very little hardware inside a modern Mac since the SoCs of the M family even contain RAM. However, it must also be said that the starting point (i.e., the current 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros ) is excellent, and there is very little to change. So much so that quite a few commentators are wondering why Apple is forging ahead so quickly: current MacBook Pros are more than enough for the vast majority of today’s professional workflows; what good is a MacBook Pro with a monstrous M2 Max?

MacBook Pro With M2: How They Will Be

It is not confirmed, but it is assumed that Apple will equip the two new ” pro ” laptops with more powerful versions of the M2 chip. That is, the not yet presented M2 Pro and M2 Max. We don’t know anything about these chips, which don’t exist yet, but we know that the ” smooth ” M2 has a CPU around 15-18% of the M1 and a 25% better GPU. Therefore, we expect similar improvements in the transition from M1 Pro / Max to M2 Pro / Max.

It will probably remain the same. However, the display with Mini-LED technology, the famous ” Liquid Retina XDR, “as Apple calls it, with the equally famous ” notch ” borrowed from smartphones to host the 1080p webcam with Center Stage. The MagSafe, HDMI ports, and SD card reader will also remain.

MacBook Pro With M2: When It Arrives And How Much It Costs

According to Gurman, the new MacBook Pro with Apple M2 chip is practically ready and will arrive at the latest by autumn, just in time to end up under the Christmas tree of some graphic and video professionals.

Quite a wealthy professional, given that very high prices are expected for all models. We recall that on the MacBook Air, the transition from M1 to M2 has increased by 300 euros (from 1,229 euros to 1,529 euros), while the current 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro with the “old” M1 chip do not cost. less than 2,349 euros (14 inches) and 2,849 euros (16 inches).
