In 2022 we will have to say goodbye to Internet Explorer. With a post on the to announce it Microsoft blog, was the partner group manager of Microsoft Edge Sean Lyndersay who, with the occasion, introduced the guidelines to allow simply and fluidly the passage to the proprietary browser based on Chromium, Edge.
Lyndersay’s words underline how the change will bring with it greater security and speed of use and the ability to operate through what has been called ” IE Mode “, which is a special mode that allows optimized websites to run without blocking. for Explorer on Edge.
The support with “IE Mode” on Windows Client, Server, and IoT world products will continue until 2029, with a communication that will arrive at least one year in advance – underlines the press release – concerning the interruption of the service.
These are, therefore, the last words for the old software which, in August 2021, will also see the interoperability with Microsoft 365 vanish. A large number of Windows 10 users will be struck by this procedure: the 11 release of the desktop browser, released through the Semi-Annual Channel that releases updates and new features twice a year, will be removed from the package for the client of the latest OS in version 20H2 onwards and from IoT edition 20H2 and later.
Users who currently use Internet Explorer must calendar the date of June 15, 2022, the day that will officially mark the official end of the now obsolete browser. There are therefore just over 365 days to complete the migration to Edge, which arrives pre-installed on desktop and laptop computers with Windows 10 operating system.
For those who do not want to lose their personalized content, such as bookmarks, passwords, and personal settings, the operation is simplified by using the special guides developed by Redmond. Therefore, the information will not be lost despite the change but can continue to be used even later.
According to Lyndersay, after the transition, there will be many sites and applications built on Internet Explorer that will remain online and that will necessarily have to receive a thorough restyling. In particular, organizations and companies currently exploit around 1,678 apps that, shortly, will need a tweak to work optimally on the new browser.
Of course, the changes will have a long-lasting effect, as Microsoft Edge is expected to stay strong until at least 2029. In any case, in the post, Lyndersay reminds that it will be possible to use IE Mode to ensure that, throughout the period following the transition, the sites continue to be operational. But better not waste time: all that remains is to roll up your sleeves and get busy.
