After years of absence, Xiaomi is finally ready to return to the Android tablet market as the main alternative to the iPad (perhaps also offering the stylus). An ambitious goal, yes, but not impossible for a company like Xiaomi, which over the years has shown that it can duel with any other company.
So the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 will be presented to listen to the rumors shortly, by the end of August. “The” Xiaomi Mi Pad 5, in the plural, because the company should return to the Android tablet market with three models to cover different segments: Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Lite, which as the name suggests will be the cheapest of the three, Mi Pad 5 and finally Mi Pad 5 Pro, which on the contrary will be the choice of reference for those who want the best. It also seems that a fourth version can be derived from the three Xiaomi tablets, with a lower price, which Redmi would market.
According to the latest information, Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 and Mi Pad 5 Pro will have the Snapdragon 870 chip, an evolution of Qualcomm’s top of the range last year that can potentially reach a maximum frequency of 3.2 GHz. Consequently, the two best tablets of Xiaomi should certainly not lack performance if they were equipped with the Snapdragon 870, as they say.
The rumors indicate that one of two variants – probably IPad Pro 5 – will have a camera of 48 megapixels and support the 5G connectivity. At the same time, the other will do with a 12-megapixel sensor and the only Wi-Fi connectivity to ensure access to the web. Instead, both will rely on a relatively large LCD, 10.9 inches. With a 2K resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, it is said to ensure maximum fluidity when viewing compatible movies or, even better, with the games.
According to the rumors, Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 and Mi Pad 5 Pro will share two other features: the battery from 8,750 mAh and the support for fast wired charging at 67 watts. The differences between the “standard” variant and the Pro would therefore be limited to the resolution of the camera and to 5G connectivity, elements that many would presumably be willing to give up in the face of substantial savings in the purchase phase.
Instead of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Lite, it will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 chip. It represents an evolution of the top of the 2019 Snapdragon 855+ range: a project with a few years on its shoulders. In short, but certainly able to guarantee good performance at those who use the tablet without the need to perform hardware-intensive tasks, such as writing or streaming multimedia content.
Moreover, it is said that Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Lite will borrow some essential features from the older brothers, such as the display, the 10.9-inch LCD panel, 2K resolution, and 120 Hz refresh rate. There would then be rapid charging at 33 watts and a camera of 12 megapixels.
